Surrey Stingers @ Portsmouth Destroyers
The 0-4 Stingers return to BUAFL football this weekend with a trip to the reigning champions. If Surrey are going to try and keep this game close then the Stingers offence, currently averaging 4.5 points per game will need to try and find some sort of rhythm to keep the poor Stingers defence off the field for long periods of the game.
The Destroyers, still reeling from last weekend’s upset loss at the hands of the Solent now get the opportunity to take their anger out on the whipping boys of the TVC. With the Destroyers now in a battle to hold on the second seed in the TVC, its games like these that Portsmouth should be handling with relative ease.
Blowout victory for Portsmouth as they win by 5 scores.
RHUL Bears @ BNU Buccaneers
Three quarters of the way through the Bears season and they have already matched their wins total from last season, but the offence has been shutout in their last two games. The Bears will be hoping their defence preforms better than last season when BNU spanked them 70-0.
Despite scoring the second most points in the TVC, BNU are still sitting third from bottom with a 1-3 record. With the high calibre teams are no longer left on their schedule, the Bucs will be hoping to extend their win streak to two games, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.
BNU to win by 60.
Imperial Immortals @ Southampton Stags
Whilst the Immortals have had a good start to the season so far, Imperial now kick start their run of fixtures against teams with playoff quality. A victory for the Immortals this weekend would blow the playoff race wide open in the TVC and will show that Imperial can play with the big boys of the league. Whilst their offence is generating points this season, it will come down to how well their D plays against the highest scoring team in the conference.
It’s been a while since the unbeaten Stags last played a game and the coaching staff will be hoping the team shows no signs of rust when they take on Imperial at the weekend. Southampton are now in the driving seat to win their conference this season and its games like this that will show if the Stags are for real this season.
Southampton to win by three scores.
OBU Panthers @ Brunel Burners
The resurgent Panthers now have a genuine shot of taking part in the Championship playoffs after Portsmouth’s loss at the hands of the Redhawks. With the offence relying heavily on the running game with a few dink and dunk passes thrown in; OBU will be hoping their D (currently ranked #1 in the conference) can carry them towards the post season.
Fortunately for the Burners, all of the off field drama involving their former HC has distracted people from their poor season so far. Brunel are currently 1-4 with their only victory over the lowly Surrey Stingers. With a new coaching staff on board the Burners may play the role of villain in the TVC playoff race, but don’t expect an upset in this trap game.
Panthers to edge this one with a one score victory.
