On Wednesday 17th April the Manchester Titans
held an American Football demonstration before and during the Manchester City
home game versus Wigan Athletic.
Joined by players from the MMU Eagles and club sponsors
Manchester Printers, the Titans gave fans the opportunity to try on shoulder
pads and a helmet and have a photograph taken with Titans and Eagles players.
Invited down by City to provide pre-game entertainment at
City Square, the fan-zone at the Etihad Stadium, the Titans gave
demonstrations, skills workshops, photo opportunities and ran a half-time
competition on the pitch, all the time promoting the club and American Football
to a large audience.
Fans then entered a skills zone where there were taught how
to throw, catch, and block, before having the chance to run drills as a
Quarterback, a Wide Receiver and a Defensive Back.
The CitySquare presenters interviewed a Titans player which
was shown on the big screens inside and outside the stadium. At half-time to Titans ran a competition
where three fans had the chance to win hospitality at the Etihad Stadium. The fans had to hit the back of the net
throwing a football from the half-way line.
After Titans player and Manchester Tyrants HC Caleb Jackson stepped up
and hit the back of the net at his first attempt the fans efforts came up
short.
The footfall in the fan-zone is estimated to be over 20,000
people, The Titans players mingled and distributed flyers and talked to many
fans about the club and the game in the UK.
