Oh boy, this may actually be the easiest Powerless Rankings
of all time. That’s not because all of the teams on the list lost at the
weekend; in fact, it’s quite the opposite as only four of the six teams on this
list played due to the numerous postponements throughout the league, coupled
with the fact that a lot of this week’s list seem to have had byes this
weekend. Anyway, as per, we begin with the dishonourable mentions list!
The Weather – Stupid rain
causing numerous postponements that’ll delay the end of the Uni season and
possibly affect the BAFANL season.
Universities who hire out the 3G pitches – This is ridiculously annoying. When I was at Uni, our sports centre
decided to build a 3G pitch over our home field and then they’d hire it out to
the community at the weekend. Erm...ok, that doesn’t seem fair. If Universities
allowed their sports teams to use the 3G pitches instead of hiring them out at
the weekend, I reckon there would be fewer
postponements due to the weather.
Teams still winless – There’s
nineteen of you in total, and ten are featuring on this list. Therefore, a
simple message to the other nine...sort it out!
All the LJM Fury doubters – You
know who you all are! I’m one, I’ll admit that, as I didn’t expect the Fury to
win a game this season after last year’s shambles. But hey, they put myself and
quite a few people around the UK in our places as they defeated the MMU Eagles
39-6 at the weekend. Well done Fury, keep it up!
10. Leicester
Longhorns (0-3)
We kick start with the list with a team who were fortunate
enough to play a game this weekend. Unfortunately for the Longhorns, the result
didn’t go their way as they lost 26-8 to the Warwick Wolves (a team they posted
50+ on last season...) Leicester will travel to the Lincoln Colonials this
weekend hoping their offence can improve on their average score of six points
per game this season...
Next game – 2nd
December - @ Lincoln Colonials
9. Edinburgh Napier
Knights (0-3)
The first of many teams not to play this weekend is the
Napier Knights. However, unlike most teams in the league, the Knights were
scheduled to be on a bye week, meaning they weren’t victims of the brutal
weather (even though all the games in the Saltire conference went ahead). With
a trip to Stirling this weekend, don’t be surprised to see Edinburgh on next week’s
rankings too!
Next game – 2nd
December - @ Stirling Clansmen
8. Royal Holloway
Bears (0-3)
The second team on our rankings who were able to play a game
of football at the weekend is the Royal Holloway Bears who drop down to the
number eight spot in our rankings. A 28-0 loss was good, I mean bad enough for
the Bears to appear on the Powerless Rankings this week, and with the
Southampton Stags scheduled to visit this weekend, the Bears may be on our
rankings this time next week.
Next game – 2nd
December – vs. Southampton Stags
7. Teesside Cougars
(0-2)
Another team who were able to play a game this weekend
despite the weather was the Teesside Cougars. Whilst they were able to play a
game this season, the Cougars were unable to come away with the victory. A
30-12 loss to the Leeds Celtics keeps the Cougars in the Powerless Rankings for
another week, but it may just be for one week, as the Cougars host the Durham
Saints next weekend!
Next game – 2nd
December (possibly the 1st) – vs. Durham Saints
6. Oxford Lancers
(0-3)
Another team who were on a bye at the weekend was the Oxford
Lancers. With three straight losses to their name and a miserable six points in
the points scored column, it may be a while until the Lancers are off our
Powerless Rankings. Well, it doesn’t help that their next game isn’t until the New
Year...
Next game – 27th
January – vs. RHUL Bears
5. Surrey Stingers
(0-2)
After their 74-0 hammering the week before, the Stingers,
just like Edinburgh and Oxford, were on a bye week last weekend but still
remain in our rankings. With a trip to Brighton at the weekend to take on the undefeated
Tsunami, there could be a slide down our rankings for the basement dwellers in
the TVC.
Next game – 2nd
December - @ Brighton Tsunami
4. Wolverhampton
Wildcats (0-1)
After two straight postponements, the Wildcats finally got
their season under-way with a home game against the Lincoln Colonials. Whilst
the result might not have gone as planned (20-0 loss), the Wildcats can still
be glad they have finally got their season under-way. Shame it got started after
two postponed games...
Next game – 2nd
December – vs. DMU Falcons
3. Bath Spa Bulldogs
(0-3)
Hmm, I’m starting to believe that there was no teams affected
by the weather as the Bath Spa Bulldogs were also on a bye this weekend...Currently
sitting with a 0-3 record, we’ll be surprised if the Bulldogs can find a win to
equal last season’s 3-5 record. As a matter of fact, the Bulldogs may go from
3-5 to 0-8!
Next game – 9th
December - @ Swansea Titans
1b. Worcester Royals
(0-2)
Finally! A team whose game was postponed. Well, we say it
was postponed, but it was a re-scheduled game that was then re-scheduled for
the new year despite the fact that Cardiff and Worcester were on a bye...Now, we've heard numerous rumours as to why the game was postponed, some good, some
bad, but judging by the weather of the past few days, the game would've most
likely been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch...
Next game – 2nd
December - @ Gloucester Gladiators
1a. DMU Falcons (0-3)
We've made it to the bottom of the list to find out that
there were actually no teams affected by the weather this weekend! May last
week should’ve been named ‘the Powerless Teams Bye Week’. Three games into
their season, DMU are still yet to register a point on the scoreboard, but all
that will change this weekend (we believe) when they take on the Wolverhampton
Wildcats in a battle to avoid the bottom spot in the MAC this season.
Next game – 2nd December - @ Wolverhampton Wildcats
