Double Coverage's "One To Watch" Week Three

UCLAN Rams star Sam Bloomfield lived up to his “One To Watch” status with a stellar showing in Week Three of BAFA University Football.

Even whilst playing, Sam found the time to help the invisible man find his contact lenses.

Bloomfield put in a dominating performance, laying some big hits and recording two picks, two sacks and a receiving touchdown as the Rams shutout MMU Eagles 12-0 in their first ever competitive game.

Speaking to Double Coverage in the week, Bloomfield said, “I was pleased with my own performance but there is plenty of work to be done as always. Watch the good plays once and the bad plays countless times!”

“It was a great team effort to get the win, with solid performances all over the field. A special mention must go to Chris Anderson, who had a monster game with a pick-six, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt”

The Rams hosted their season opener as “RAMpage”, bringing in catering, commentators and entertainment for the fans, something of which Bloomfield is especially pleased with, “It was a great event, with 200 people in attendance, some good food and a great performance by the cheerleaders.”

“The focus for us now is Sheffield Hallam (who the Rams play in Week Four)”

Elsewhere, it has been a mixed bag for our #O2W subjects as the early season schedule begins to play out.

Birmingham Lions’ Tom Levick had was on international duty during Birmingham Lions’ bye week, having shown his versatility in the Lions’ previous game by filling in at defensive tackle and recording two sacks and a forced fumble, helping Brum to a comfortable win over Lincoln

Orion Modebe was also on bye week, but took his season touchdown tally to six in Week Two as Brunel Burners lost to Southampton Stags 47-20, and will be aiming for an international call-up after submitting for selection to the Great Britain Lions Student Team ahead of their game against Sweden next year.

If I say something witty about Orion, Jon will probably edit it out...

Will Hobbs was the most unlucky of our “Ones to Watch”, paying the price for Hull Sharks’ win over Newcastle with bruised ribs, which restricted his action against Bradford to just a handful of snaps. The running-back has told Double Coverage that he expects to be fully fit for the Sharks’ upcoming game against Durham.

Finally, Nottingham quarterback Luca Rossoni will take to the field this weekend as the Outlaws look to bounce back from their heavy defeat at Birmingham – only the small matter of Loughborough stand in their way...
