National Signing Day

The first Wednesday of February every year College Football teams in America finalise their rookie class on National Signing day. This years signing day already has several intriguing storylines before we even get into the potential for 5 star recruits flopping on their commits.

Here's a run down of the top 5 stories to keep track of:

Alabama not securing #1
Four of the last five years the Tide have secured the Rivals #1 spot for their recruitment class, securing talent to maintain their grip on the Coaches Trophy.

This year however Florida, Notre Dame and Michigan have all pulled interest from some top athletes. Rivals and Scout.com has those 3 teams all projected to finish above the current national champions.

Where will the #1 recruit land?
Robert Nkemdiche is ranked as the #1 recruit in the US this year and he has been highly coveted. The 6'5 265lb Defensive lineman (and Running back!) was originally a commit to Clemson, but he decommited from the Tigers after they refused to take on a high school team mate Ryan Carter (a two star recruit).

Currently coveted by Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss he is destined to be a star and has drawn comparisons to Jadeveon Clowney.

Ole Miss going mental
Seriously!?

Ole Miss must have bought up all the stock of the movie Blind Side and sent it to their recruits to secure the kind of class they're looking at getting this year.

As well as the previously mentioned Nkemdiche, they are also in the running for five star recruits Offensive Lineman Laremy Tunsil (Nationally #3, Position #1) and Safety Tony Conner (#25 nationally, #2 Position).

If they are able to secure those signatures and sign up the rest of their interested players they could be in line for a top 5 finish! Not a bad first recruiting cycle for Head Coach Hugh Freeze.

Penny for your thoughts?
Altee Tenpenny (superb name) is a four star running back from the state of Arkansas. He is currently commited to Alabama, but reports say that he has concerns about the amount of talent turning up to play in Tuscaloosa

Every year there are players that flip on their commits and Tenpenny could be one of the biggest!

Can Gus Mahlzahn save Auburn's class?
After firing then Head Coach Gene Chizik the Tigers were immediately rocked by star players Dee Liner and Robert Foster decommiting from the University (Foster hurt most, as he then went to state arch rivals Alabama).

Since then Chizik has been working hard and Auburn currently sit at #16 overall on the 247Sport rankings. They already have five star defensive end Carl Lawson commited and will be hoping they can sign the rest of the players as soon as possible.

Keep an eye out tonight as the College equivalent of the NFL Draft kicks off early and through the night on ESPN.

Gene Chizik has a lot of work on his hands
