NFL Rookie of the Year – First half of the season contenders

Now we have reached the true halfway point of the season (week 8 featured several teams that hadn’t played 8 games due to bye weeks) it’s time to look at a few of the contenders for the offensive and defensive rookie of the year contenders.

Offence
There aren’t too many candidates for offensive rookie of the year this season as the field has been thinned by injuries to potential contenders (the missing men being messirs Ingram, Jones and Leshoure). There are also a few candidates whos seasons have only just started and look to be having an impact already.

However the three that make up the main pack chasing the title are all in the midst of some of the strongest rookie seasons seen.

xpLosION Recap

After week long rain in the midlands area there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the start of the BUAFL season. Unfortunately due to the fantastic public transport system in this country we missed the coin toss but arrived in time to see the opening kickoff. Apologies for not knowing some names, we will amend as soon as we get them!

After a good return from Dan Conroy the Lions offence got the ball first to try and set the tempo for the game. With the loss of Tristan Varney for the season it would be Jonny Glover leading the Lions offence and strong running from Conroy and #13 as well as quick passes from Glover drove the Lions to within the Renegades 10. A touchdown pass from Glover to Ben Brown in the red zone put the Lions on the scoreboard first; the point after attempt was good. 7-0 Lions.

College game of the week: Alabama vs LSU

It's going to be a tough athletic competition...

Since the first game of the season after LSU trounced National Championship finalists Oregon one fixture has really stood out for many on the calendar. The visit of Les Miles and his LSU Tigers to the Bryant-Denny stadium to take on Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide is considered by many to be the national championship game this season.
It is a shame that these two teams won’t meet in the big game as they are the out and out best teams in College Football this season, but that is the nature of the archaic BCS system and the subject of a whole different article.

BUAFL Football returns with a bang!

Running back Dan Conroy scores for Birmingham in last years event
Tonight is a feast of football at home and abroad with the Birmingham Lions opening the BUAFL season taking on the visiting NTU Renegades at their annual xpLosION event (the letters in caps spell LION for those that hadn't figured it out yet) and #1 LSU taking on #2 Alabama in the NCAA (more on that in later article). Game preview follows after the page break.
