BUAFL Game Report: Borders Upset

Match report on the huge upset in the Borders conference as the title challenging Glasgow Tigers took on the EN Knights.

The Edinburgh Napier Knights team bounced back in style this week with a hard fought but well deserved victory over the title contending Glasgow Tigers. A first quarter touchdown pass from Euan Rennie to Wide Receiver Neale Lees was all that separated the two sides on the day but it was the Knights takeaway Defence and good field position that swung the game in their favour.

Defensive Tackle Jamie Charles
The Tigers ran 37 times for only 93 yards but fumbled the ball away 5 times. Even with the ball on Napier's 3 yard line Glasgow in the 3rd quarter the Tigers turned the ball over yet again with an interception by corner back Simon Kay. The Knights offense had some turnover themselves with normally reliable Running Back Jamie Welsh, who ran for 74 yards on 24 carries, fumbling 3 times as well.

But the Knights showed great fortitude and their confident play was rewarded with a well deserved victory keeping their slim Plate playoff chances alive.

Quarterback Euan Rennie in conversation with Head Coach Pete Laird
A delighted Head Coach Pete Laird said ‘I’m very proud of the boys. It would have been easy for some of them to quit and walk away following the last couple of tough results. But the coaching staff have been stressing to them that we are not that far away. We just need to concentrate harder on every play. I am particularly happy that we controlled the ball better this week and that the Defence rose to the challenge of creating more turnovers’.

The Knights named Left Tackle Daniel Hermanns as their game MVP.

  1. Jon,

I'm no great fan of just re-printing a teams own match report. But if you do please at least insist they find out the names of the players they were playing against.

  2. if one team actually bothers to submit a Press Release why is it there responsibility to submit one on behalf of the other team as well?

  3. Both are valid points but the border conference doesn't have any writters. So a match report a team were "bothered" to write and submit is much better no report at all if both teams submitted reports then one could compare and contrast =]

So on balence its good to hear news fromm north of the border =]
